The mission of the DTMA Education Foundation is to support career awareness, recruitment, education, and training for the regional tooling and manufacturing industry.  The Foundation supports the Dayton Tooling and Manufacturing Association as a separate 501(c)3, tax-exempt charitable organization established in 1989 to provide funding for workforce development activities not otherwise covered by membership dues and other sources of non-dues revenue.

A volunteer Board of Directors, composed of representatives from industry, governs the Foundation.  Formerly known as the Scholarship Fund, the name was changed in 2001 to reflect its expanded purpose.

The Tactics

The Foundation provides funding for initiatives designed to recruit and retain employees in the region’s tooling and machining industry by enhancing their knowledge and skills and, subsequently, their value to their employers.  Initiatives funded by the Foundation are managed by the Dayton Tooling and Manufacturing Association and include activities such as those listed below.  The pie chart illustrates typical uses of funds.

·         Implementing national skill standards (NIMS)

·         Developing and recruiting students for the Top Gun Tooling & Machining Academy

·         Providing scholarships to students and trainees in machine trades programs

·         Supporting vocational school training programs to help them attract students

·         Conducting DTMA career development classes

·         Promoting the value of company-run apprentice programs

·         Providing guidance to advisory committees for machine trade training programs

·         Providing industry expertise to improve curriculum at training centers

·         Developing a career awareness program to attract future workers

·         Developing a model to attract and retain a diverse workforce

·         Providing CEO development programs to increase management strength in the industry

How the Foundation is Funded

The Foundation is funded primarily by business and personal contributions.  In addition, it holds one fundraising event a year, the DTMA Golf and Tennis Outing, which generates approximately $10,000 a year.  Your gift to the DTMA Education Foundation makes our industry stronger and more competitive in the global market.  Because the Foundation is classified as a charitable organization, your gift is tax deductible (please consult your professional tax advisor).

The Foundation accepts gifts of every size.  You may want to think about . . .

·         Making a contribution in someone’s honor instead of purchasing a birthday or holiday gift

·         Making a contribution in memory of someone involved in the tooling and machining industry

·         Leaving a lasting legacy by arranging a “life-time” or “planned giving” charitable gift

·         Giving back to the industry by passing on to the Foundation a cash prize awarded to your company
